How it's free
openask.co runs your question through a web search and the AI model you pick, then writes an answer with sources. Every model costs us money per answer. Ads pay for it.
Where the ads go
When you type a question in Search mode, a few sponsored results from Google appear above the answer, matched to what you asked. They are labelled as sponsored. Chat mode, related-question clicks and older answers in a thread show no ads.
You can say no to ads in the prompt when you first visit; you'll still get answers.
Some answers to shopping questions also show one affiliate card, labelled as such. If you buy through it we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. It never changes what the answer says.
Credits
Everyone gets free credits every day, reset at midnight UTC. Bigger models cost more credits per question because they cost more to run. When we reach our daily budget for the whole service, free answers pause until the next day rather than shutting the service down for good.
What data goes where
| Who | What they receive |
|---|---|
| Search provider | Your question (or your question plus the previous one, for follow-ups). |
| AI model provider | Your question, the search results, and the last few turns of the same thread. |
| Google (ads) | If you allow ads: the question you type in Search mode, to choose sponsored results. Google's partner-sites policy explains how it uses that data. Pages also load Google AdSense, which may set cookies to show and measure ads, depending on your consent choices. Advertisers see aggregate impressions and clicks, not your question. |
| Us | An anonymous cookie to count your credits, a hashed IP address for the same reason, and per-answer cost and timing. For web searches, your question, its search results and the answer are cached for up to six hours, so that a question somebody else asks next costs nothing to answer again; then they are deleted. Follow-up questions, chat mode and answers from an agent are never cached. Answers are not stored on our server. |
| Your browser | Your thread history, stored locally. Clear site data to delete it. |
